The time has come for the new live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” to hit theaters so that fans can once again enjoy this underwater story that changed animated movies forever when it came out more than 30 years ago.
Disney goes back to its old ways and gives us what they call one of the best remakes of one of their hits. Will that be enough to get you to give it a try? Find out if this new version of The Little Mermaid is for you by reading on.
What is worth of The Little Mermaid?
When the story of Ariel, a young mermaid who dreams of the human world and its people, was told to the world for the first time in 1989, people were moved by the film’s amazing animation for the time, as well as its memorable music and cute characters.

So how could The Little Mermaid make a good version of the classic that would be remembered for many years? Simple, gets to the heart of it, and almost to the letter.
And Rob Marshall’s movie is a faithful retelling of the original story, with famous scenes and musicals that stand out for their underwater visuals and make us think about how well the money was spent.

Even though there are still “fans” of the movie who don’t like the idea of seeing a black Ariel on screen, Halle Bailey deserves to be talked about on her own because she does a great job. The 23-year-old actor has a knack for making people feel happy and naive, but she can also be intense and dramatic when things start to go wrong. Her voice is another tool that she knows how to use well, and this is clear when it comes time to use it.
And while Javier Bardem and Jonah Hauer-King do decent jobs as King Triton and Prince Eric, respectively, Melissa McCarthy has a blast as Ursula, which makes you want to see more of her on screen, even though we wouldn’t say that he lives up to the original character.
But if we want to keep going in this direction, we should point out that The Little Mermaid has musical numbers that are based on old songs we already know. Listening to these well-known songs in a movie theater is a very cool thing to do.
What is not worth the Little Mermaid?
Of course, not all of the musical numbers are worth noticing. The Little Mermaid new versions are definitely not as good as the ones that came before them, and it seems like nothing would have changed if they hadn’t been there.
And since we’re talking about the new stuff, I’m sure more than a few people will be unhappy with the new scenes that are meant to go deeper into things that were only touched on briefly in the original, like the relationship between Ariel and Eric. Even though the first movie has story holes that need to be filled, this version doesn’t do a very good job of doing so. And let’s not even talk about the fact that there are some new figures we don’t understand.
And to top it all off, the CGI looks great underwater but not so much on land. The first scenes don’t look like National Geographic pictures, which is confusing and even a little disappointing.

Should we see The Little Mermaid or not?
The Little Mermaid is a much better remake than most people might think. It stays true to the history and memory of the original, which won over Disney fans more than 30 years ago. The heart of this new version is Halle Bailey and the musical/visual show. It still feels cute and is worth a try, even though you’ll probably want to cut out one or more parts.
