Napoleon is getting his own movie, and Oscar buzz is already happening about it. In the 2000 movie Gladiator, Joaquin Phoenix and Ridley Scott worked together.
Phoenix played the cruel son of an emperor who wants to ruin Russell Crowe’s life because Crowe was his father’s favorite and could take the throne.
This group effort was nominated for 12 Oscars and won 5 of them. Phoenix was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Gladiator is a classic, and it did very well at the box office and with critics. However, after making the movie, Scott and Phoenix never worked together again, until now.
20 years after the release of Gladiator, which will soon have a sequel, the actor and director will work together again on a biopic about the life of legendary military man Napoleon Bonaparte. Like Commodus, Napoleon Bonaparte was a famous emperor with a complicated life.

The new biopic used to be called Kitbag, which comes from the saying that “there’s a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag.” It is now called Napoleon, and according to Deadline, it will focus on Napoleon’s personal life instead of his war exploits and political dramas.
What’s the story of Napoleon?
The plot summary says that the movie is an original and personal look at the beginnings of Napoleon Bonaparte and his quick and cruel rise to emperor, as seen through the lens of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine.
The movie is supposed to show how Napoleon Bonaparte got to be emperor, but it will focus especially on how he and his first wife, Josephine, had a very rocky relationship.
Kitbag is expected to be a big movie because Joaquin Phoenix is in it, and it could get nominated for several Oscars, including best actor (the Academy likes real-life stories about important and complicated characters, and Ridley Scott has made a lot of those kinds of movies). He did a great job with Gladiator, so we’ll have to wait and see if he can do the same thing with this new movie about one of the most famous people in French history.

The script for this movie is being written by David Scarpa, who worked with Scott on the 2017 movie All the Money in the World. That movie was about the kidnapping of John Paul Getty III, the grandson of one of the world’s richest men, whose family refused to pay his ransom.
When will Napoleon be released?
At this point, we don’t know when the movie will come out, but it is already being filmed, and Ridley Scott has said that Phoenix’s performance is so good that he had to make changes to make the movie even better.
The images
There are already pictures of Phoenix on the set of Napoleon wearing a soldier’s uniform that is an exact copy of the one Napoleon wore when he was in charge. You can also watch some of the scenes from the movie, which show that Scott paid attention to every little thing.
Napoleon movie cast
Joaquin Phoenix will go through another amazing change to become Napoleon Bonaparte. His wife, Josephine, will be played by Vanessa Kirby, who was in Hobbs and Shaw.
Ludivine Sagnier, Tahar Rahim, Ian McNeice, and Matthew Needham, who played the troublemaker Larys Strong in House of the Dragon, also have roles in the movie.
