Poco made its debut with the F1 back in 2018. Since then, the firm has launched a small number of products with great care while broadening its portfolio across price points. The F series is still known for providing powerful processors at a reasonable price, and the most recent Poco F5 5G follows this tradition. This is the only phone available in India right now with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 SoC, which is genetically very similar to the premium Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. The F5 also meets several additional criteria because it has an IP certification, an optically stabilized primary camera, and extremely quick charging.

Poco F5 5G design

The Poco F5 5G may look familiar if you keep up with international smartphone releases because it is remarkably similar to the Chinese Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Turbo. Everything seems to be identical to the F5 5G, including the design and colors. Since Xiaomi doesn’t appear to be planning to introduce its phone in India, there shouldn’t be any sibling rivalry.

This Poco F5 5G review says that its black color doesn’t appear to be particularly high-end because the plastic back panel is quite easy to get fingerprints on. Smudges ought to be easier to conceal with the other colors. However, the F5 feels like a phone from a much lower price range due to the poor quality of the plastic rear panel. It’s unfortunate because the Poco F4 5G glass back panel gave it a considerably more upscale appearance.

The power button, which rests uncomfortably flush with the frame, houses the fingerprint sensor. The frame’s top contains a headphone jack and an IR blaster, while the bottom has a SIM tray with space for two SIM cards but no microSD expansion port. The F5 5G has an IP53 rating for fundamental water and dust protection.

Software and Poco F5 5G Specifications

A 4nm-process-based SoC, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 is energy-efficient. With slightly lower frequencies, it employs the same 1+3+4 arrangement CPU clusters as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. There are several further differences as well, such as a weaker GPU and less memory bandwidth. Along with Bluetooth 5.3 and dual-band Wi-Fi ac, the Xiaomi Poco F5 5G supports all 12 5G bands in India. In order to better control heat, Poco claims to have used a vapour chamber cooling system made up of 14 graphite sheets.

The MIUI 14 (14.0.3), which is based on Android 13, is used by the Poco F5 5G. For the F5 5G, Poco has committed to providing two years of Android updates and three years of security updates. As usual, the homescreen comes preloaded with a ton of apps and shortcuts. A few native apps that can’t be removed are infamous for overcrowding the notification shade with advertising and pointless alerts. Thankfully, certain apps, like Music and Themes, let you turn off adverts and suggestions, but this doesn’t completely silence the warnings.

Poco F5 5G Performance and battery life

The Poco F5 5G’s new SoC boasts an absurdly high level of raw power. Although benchmark results are typically not given much weight, they can be a reliable predictor of performance in the actual world. The Poco F5 5G scored 13,498 in PCMark (Work 2.0) and 10,94,798 in AnTuTu (v10), respectively. These are excellent figures that behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 of Qualcomm only slightly.

Multitasking has been seamless, the system has been responsive, and apps load quickly. Even when playing games, the phone only gets warm, thus heat management has also been fairly good so far.

So far, battery life has been fairly good. In our HD movie loop test, the Poco F5 5G has a solid battery life of 17 hours, 34 minutes, which is above average. The phone readily lasted more than a full day on average, even with intensive use, which was another positive aspect of the real-world backup time. The F5 5G can charge up to 46 percent in 30 minutes and up to 93 percent in an hour when using the included adapter, which makes charging quick.

Poco F5 5G Camera

According to the Poco F5 5G review, it sports three rear cameras: an 8-megapixel ultra-wide, a 2-megapixel macro, and a 64-megapixel primary camera with optical stabilization (OIS). A 16-megapixel selfie camera is built into the phone. Poco claims to have included a 2X “lossless” zoom option that makes advantage of a clipped area of the sensor to take pictures that are magnified. If you wish to add some vintage effects to your images, there are also seven film camera filters available.

Given its low pricing and near resemblance to Qualcomm’s flagship 8 Gen series SoCs in terms of raw performance, the Poco F5 5G is an indisputable powerhouse. This makes the F5 5G an ideal choice for anyone looking for a powerful smartphone for gaming, especially when combined with the effective heat management. The F5 5G also shines in other categories thanks to its display, long battery life, and sleek design. Additionally, the selfie and ultra-wide cameras could have been more impressive.
