Superman Legacy

Listen to the Podcast:

James Gunn has big plans for the Man of Steel, and it looks like he’ll be overseeing firsthand the return of the beloved DC Comics hero in Superman Legacy.

As revealed by DC Studios screenwriter Tom King, he seems to be sure of it, as he recently mentioned during an interview with the Comic Pop Returns YouTube channel.

It’s around minute 52:00 of the hour-long conversation when the screenwriter talks about his experience working for the DC Cinematic Universe and collaborating with the team led by the director of The Suicide Squad.

Expanding on how Gunn is like a fit leader for the brand, King casually mentions that the studio’s co-head is writing the movie and handling directing duties on the project.

What will Superman’s Legacy be about?

Superman Legacy will be the first film set under James Gunn‘s initiative aimed at building a new DC Universe.

The film will center on a young version of Clark Kent, who will struggle to balance his life as a hobbyist journalist at the Daily Planet with his second job as the world’s most powerful superhero. Unfortunately, exploring a younger iteration of the character means that Henry Cavill, who played Superman in the Zack Snyder movies and Black Adam‘s post-credits scene, won’t be returning to the role.

The project was first announced during a huge presentation in January, where James Gunn, along with DC Films co-chairman Peter Safran, unveiled the first chapter of their upcoming universe.

Under the title Gods and Monsters, the franchise will debut with the film Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow, based on Tom King’s comic book of the same name. In that story, Kara Zor-El lived a very different life from her cousin, Superman, when she, too, managed to escape the destruction of Krypton. Kara only witnessed death and destruction throughout the universe, while Kal-El was able to grow up in a loving family.

Who acts in Superman Legacy?

At the moment, who is part of the Superman Legacy cast is a mystery.

And although the interest of the fans to see what superstars will appear in this film is evident, it is true that all the attention is on who will take on the mantle of the Man of Steel.

After Henry Cavill was officially left out of the project and after knowing the plot of this new tape, it is a fact that drastic changes are coming for the character, so many big names have been considered to stay with the role.
