The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz got into the sport to make history. He gave a strong example of this by winning the Wimbledon Championship in 2023. This is a very prestigious tennis event.

Since 1877, England has held the Wimbledon Championship, also called just “Wimbledon,” every year between June and July. Not only is it the oldest event in this sport, but it is also the third one. It is part of the Grand Slam and is played every year. The Australian Open (on a hard court) and Roland Garros (on a clay court) come before it, and the US Open (also on a hard court) comes after it. Wimbledon, on the other hand, is played on a grass court.

For any tennis player, winning one of these tournaments is a turning point in their career. To get to these levels, you have to beat the best players in the sport right now, like Carlos Alcaraz did today when he beat Novak Djokovic, who has won Grand Slam titles and been at the top of tennis for a long time, but who was beaten today by a player who will go down in history.

Carlos Alcaraz age?

The most remarkable aspect of Carlos Alcaraz is not his achievement, but his age. At the age of 19, he has already won two Masters 1000 tournaments in 2022 (Miami and Madrid) and is ranked sixth in the world.

In May, he celebrated his birthday by defeating Cameron Norrie in the round of 16 of the Madrid Open, before going on to defeat Rafa Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Alexander Zverev to win the title on home soil. Alcaraz is the only player in history to have defeated luminaries Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the same clay-court competition.

Carlos Alcaraz childhood

To understand Alcaraz today, you must first comprehend his past.

The tennis player was born in El Palmar (Murcia), a small community with a population of roughly 24,000 people. He grew up in a tennis-loving family; his grandpa was the founding member of a tennis club, and his father, a semi-pro who finished second in the Spanish Championship, also maintained a tennis academy.

With that background, Alcaraz and his three brothers had no choice but to play tennis, especially growing up in Spain with a role model like Nadal, who won his first Grand Slam when Alcaraz was just two years old in 2005.

A year later, at the age of three, Alcaraz received his first tennis racquet, and everything changed.

“If it’s happening, it’s not by accident.” He knew what he wanted to be since he was a child. “He had a very clear vision of how far he wanted to go, which is difficult because as a child or adolescent, your desires tend to fluctuate,” Josefina Cutillas, a sports psychologist who worked with Alcaraz from the age of eight to sixteen, noted in an article published in the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

And what he “wanted to be” is now closer than ever. Because Alcaraz desired to be the best, not just the best.

Who trains Carlos Alcaraz?

Juan Carlos Ferrero, a former World No. 1 and two-time Olympian who won the French Open the same year his pupil was born, trains Alcaraz.

Ferrero has been working with Alcaraz since the summer of 2018. Ferrero stated why he opted to train ‘Carlitos’ in an interview with Teledeporte after Alcaraz won the Miami Masters 1000.

“He was different from what I was used to. It’s not the same as training Alexander Zverev, who was ranked third in the world at the time. We still had a lot to do with Carlos. He was a youngster with a lot of talent but was quite messy, which I believe we have rectified. “I believe Carlos’s game is still at 60% of its potential.”

Alcaraz is no longer just a teenager; he is a rising star.

His idol is Rafa Nadal

The only player in history to win 21 Grand Slams was bound to be a role model for Alcaraz, who grew up witnessing all of Nadal’s triumphs.

Alcaraz, who is only 16 years old, discussed comparisons between himself and Nadal and how dangerous those comparisons may be. “It is not easy being compared to Nadal, because both generations end up losing. He is an idol and there is only one of him. I continue working hard to be a professional tennis player,” he told TennisWorld.

“I want to be like Rafa. My game is more like Roger Federer’s, but my role model is Rafa because my game is more suited to clay,” he added.

In Madrid this year, Alcaraz defeated his idol Rafael Nadal for the first match in his career. And Nadal had nothing but positive things to say about him.

“I am happy for him, everyone knows the level of tennis he is capable of reaching. I’m really glad that my country has found another incredible player that Spain can rely on for many years,” he stated at a press conference.

Where is Carlos Alcaraz from?

Carlos Alcaraz plays tennis professionally and is from Spain. On May 5, 2003, he was born in El Palmar, Murcia. At the moment, he lives in Spain in the town of Villena, which is in the province of Alicante. It’s strange, but Spanish tennis players seem to have a lot of power. All you have to do is think of Rafael Nadal, who has won the most Grand Slams of any player in history.
