Best and Worst Movies of 2023: A Must-See List for Movie Lovers

Best and Worst Movies of 2023

There have already been so many excellent movies produced in 2023, along with some less-than-excellent ones. Hey, not every movie has to be Barbie.

Here are the 10 best and 10 worst movies of the year so far

Best: ‘Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse’

Spiderman Across the Spider-Verse

The eagerly anticipated Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse sequel did not let down! A masterpiece in every sense, Spiderman: Across the Spider-Verse is visually beautiful, features an excellent music, wonderful cast performances, a compelling plot, and well-developed characters. 10/10.

Best: ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’

It was so much fun seeing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem! Due to its animation style and humor (Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were involved, after all), it is the only animated TMNT movie I care to watch. Additionally, it had a fantastic cast, which I’m sure will ensure that the sequels are equally popular.

Best: ‘Barbie’

Is it okay if I claim that this movie was “sublime” and everything I could have ever wanted? First of all, its marketing was excellent, and it had a fantastic message in addition to being hilarious! Congratulations to Greta Gerwig, whose film Barbie has earned the most money ever for a female director.

Best: ‘Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves’

One of the funniest movies I’ve seen this year is Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves! I wasn’t very interested in seeing the movie because I don’t play D&D, but I have to see anything that Chris Pine is in. The best part is undoubtedly the decoy scenario. I cannot stress this more.

Best: ‘Oppenheimer’

Oppenheimer is, in a word, an experience, and is regarded as Christopher Nolan’s best picture to date. I entered it with no preconceptions, thus the creativity (very literally) left me speechless. Instead of glorifying the guy who made these weapons feasible, the movie focuses on the repercussions of not pausing to consider whether such weapons should even exist.

Best: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3’

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 was enjoyable, as is any Marvel film. I got a little tense at moments seeing Rocket in danger. Even if I’m still not entirely sold on the new Gamora, I liked it and the soundtrack as usual.

Best: ‘BlackBerry’

I love biographical movies, and BlackBerry, starring Jay Baruchel and Glenn Howerton, is no exception. It’s a fantastic ride, and even though it’s a fictionalized account of the actual birth and demise of “CrackBerry,” I end up missing BlackBerry. Another biographical picture that merits consideration is Tetris, starring Taron Egerton.

Best: ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’

I liked this movie as a casual Indiana Jones enthusiast. Since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which included a fantastic cast that included Phoebe Waller-Bridge, John Rhys-Davies, and Karen Allen in their respective roles, there has been a significant improvement. I still maintain that Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny wasn’t a dud.

Best: ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’

Although I normally have my doubts about action franchises and did my research before watching the first one, John Wick has remained unrivaled after four movies. For me, it’s the neo-noir aesthetic, plus Keanu Reeves is a badass.

Best: ‘No Hard Feelings’

No Hard Feelings was amusing beyond belief and deserves greater acclaim. Given her versatility, Jennifer Lawrence could have chosen any role and would have been fantastic, so I was glad to see her once again demonstrate her comedic prowess. The reviews for the movie were mostly favorable, but I have some concerns for the dissidents.

Worst: ‘Ghosted’

Everyone was looking forward to the movie Ghosted, probably because Chris Evans is Chris Evans, but critics weren’t too kind to it. The action-packed rom-com, despite being somewhat underwhelming, is undoubtedly one of Apple TV+’s more well-liked movies to date as it is the platform’s most-watched film premiere. Perhaps the cameos from Marvel are its sole saving grace.

Worst: ‘Your Place Or Mine’

Your Place Or Mine

Although it wasn’t the best movie to come out of Netflix, Your Place Or Mine was certainly not the worst (and I’m sure it won’t be the last). It ought to have worked because Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher were involved. Although it would have made a nice movie, eventually, viewers simply didn’t buy their bond.

Worst: ‘Fast X’

Fast X’s lack of universal acclaim is hardly surprising given that there are 10 Fast & Furious films. We can’t hold the critics responsible for that because Jason Momoa’s performance was the only thing that seemed to save them from awarding mostly unfavorable evaluations.

Worst: ‘You People’

Given its ensemble, You People should have been a fantastic movie, but it mostly merely caused people to feel uneasy. Even with the message it was attempting to send, it had its humorous moments but had the potential to be so much more.

Worst: ‘Hypnotic’

Ben Affleck’s movie Hypnotic wasn’t terrible, but god, it wasn’t terrific either. Critics concurred that the movie was a bad imitation of Christopher Nolan and that it was uninteresting for those who did see it. Ben, there, there.

Worst: ’65’

In contrast to critics who thought it lacked creativity, audiences gave 65 largely positive reviews, so it isn’t the worst movie to come out of 2023. Watch it if you’re in the mood for a sci-fi thriller or Adam Driver, but don’t have high expectations.

Worst: ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance’

Magic Mike's Last Dance

Audiences and critics appeared to agree that while the dancers were fantastic, the movie once again lacked a strong plot. I’m not sure how Magic Mike received a second movie, despite Channing Tatum and Salma Hayek being excellent.

Worst: ‘Knights of the Zodiac’

Fans and critics of the manga series appeared to be let down by Knights of the Zodiac. The film’s weak plot could not be compensated for by its occasionally pleasing aesthetics.

Worst: ‘House Party’

The remake of the 1990 picture seemed to have more detractors than supporters. This is one of those movies that you either love or loathe. Even if House Party had its moments, I believe most people would agree that it should have been left alone.

Worst: ‘Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey’

I’m confident that if I had simply shared this photograph without any explanation, everyone would have understood. Why was this movie created? Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was a box office success despite its subpar execution, and a sequel is already in the works.
