Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty finally has a release date and an action-packed video, providing more about its espionage-focused tale. The new trailer for the expansion was shown during the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, and the game is set to release on September 26 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X. The add-on transports you to Dogtown, a previously unknown, walled-off sector in Night City. You will embark on a high-stakes spy operation to save the President of the New United States of America (NUS). This new allegiance was hinted at in the expansion’s debut trailer last year, which also marked Keanu Reeves‘ return as Johnny Silverhand.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Trailer
The Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty trailer begins with the protagonist V experiencing tremors, which she says is a harbinger of her impending death. “There’s gotta be a way outta this,” Silverhand assures her, referring to a possible solution to how much Cyberware her body can withstand.

This is a fully redesigned system that imposes a limit to how many additional physical alterations your character can accept, with a VGC report stating that the systemic changes practically necessitate a new game. CD Projekt Red has also added an Edgerunners perk that allows you to push past your physical limits while sacrificing your overall health. It’s comparable to the cyberpsychosis depicted in the Netflix anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, in which installing too much Cyberware causes you to go insane.
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Characters
To be clear, Phantom Liberty will not lean on the psychosis aspect, but will instead use it as a high-risk-high-reward element. “We are not going as far as the introduction of cyberpsychosis,” creative director Pawel Sasko stated in an interview. Returning to the trailer, we meet a new character, Songbird, an NUS intelligence analyst who is aware of the bomb ticking inside us and vows to be able to spare our lives.

But there’s a catch: we need to get into Dogtown’s walled community for an espionage mission. We then cut to the district, where President Rosalind Myers’ plane has crashed, turning the heads of the inhabitants who plan to hold her hostage. In retribution, a group of Sleeper Agents, including Idris Elba’s (The Suicide Squad) character, FIA Agent Solomon Reed, is put onto the field.
“Stay sharp, we’re in the wolf’s den now,” Reed advises as we make contact with President Myers before being thrown into a chase sequence with a massive laser-firing spider-mech.
“Someone ratted us out,” V insists, and this appears to be the basis of Phantom Liberty’s claim – there appears to be an imposter. The teaser then degraded into a montage of action scenarios that included some gunplay and V losing control of her fundamental motor skills, raising the stakes for her survival.
