The writers’ and actors’ strikes have made things pretty bad in Hollywood lately, but the upcoming box office for Barbie and Oppenheimer looks like it might be a bright spot. Deadline says that the movies with Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan will make more than $260 million in their first weekend.
How much will Barbie bring in at the ticket office?
Barbie is projected to make between $90 million and $125 million in the U.S. alone, making it a bigger summer blockbuster than Disney’s live-action version of The Little Mermaid, which made $95.5 million in its first weekend.

Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is playing in 4,200 theaters in the United States, and Warner Bros. is sure it will make at least $75 million. Deadline says that Barbie could make $165 million worldwide. Between $60 million and $65 million of that would come from 69 foreign markets, such as Mexico, where the movie has caused a lot of buzz.
How much will Oppenheimer bring in at the box office?
Oppenheimer, the first movie Nolan made for Universal and the last one to come out before the actors’ strike, is expected to bring in between $40 million and $50 million from 3,600 theaters in the United States and another $45 million from overseas, for a total of about $100 million worldwide. This three-hour drama starring Cillian Murphy, who is already making waves and has been called an early Oscar candidate, would do well to make $100 million around the world.
What is Barbie about ?
Every day is perfect in Barbieland, where perfect people live perfect lives and dance to beautiful choreographies.
But Barbie (Margot Robbie) is starting to come out of her dream and see that not everything is perfect, so she chooses to take on the challenge of going to the real world, with her best friend Ken, of course. There, Barbie will find out that girls no longer play with toys and that people have to deal with a lot of things. Now, both she and Ken will have to figure out who they really are.
Barbie is one of the most-anticipated movies of the summer, and it’s easy to see why: it’s the first time we’ll see the famous doll in a real-life adventure, and reviewers are all over her.

Oppenheimer is an epic, fast-paced thriller about a mysterious man who must risk ruining the world in order to save it. Julius Robert Oppenheimer was an American theoretical physicist. He is known as “the father of the atomic bomb” because he played a big role in the Manhattan Project, which made the first nuclear weapons in history. This project took place during World War II.
