In the tape that establishes a different universe in the world of DC, Oswald Cobblepot is the owner of the Iceberg Lounge, where the corrupt politicians of Gotham City meet, in addition to operating as the lieutenant of Carmine Falcone, who dies during the tape, leaving a large space in the world of organized crime. In a way, the play serves as an origin story for this criminal, and the series will tell of his rise as a leader.

The series is developed by Matt Reeves, who serves as executive producer. Lauren LeFranc, who previously worked as a writer on the Marvel series Agents of SHIELD, will serve as showrunner.
Cast of The Penguin
Colin Farrell will play the Penguin again in this series, along with actress Cristin Milioti (The Wolf of Wall Street, Fargo, Made for Love), who will play Sofia Falcone, daughter of Carmine Falcone, John Turturro’s character in the film.
The series also stars Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown, Michael Zegen, James Madio, and Scott Cohen. According to Variety, Zegen will play Albert Falcone, the son of Carmine Falcone, who, in the comics, claims to be a serial killer known as The Holiday Killer” due to committing his crimes during holiday seasons.

Albert’s appearance could indicate that Gotham’s gangsters will begin to be killed, which puts Penguin in danger; he must find this killer before he kills him.
What will The Penguin be about ?
Colin Farrell has mentioned that the series will follow the rise of Oswald Cobblepot within the criminal underworld, looking to take over from Carmine Falcone. The series will also tell more about his origin and his facial scars. Variety explains that the series is set right after the events of The Batman, where Gotham will be dealing with the aftermath of the devastating flood caused by the Riddler.
The appearance of Falcone’s two sons, who are also Catwoman’s (Zo Kravitz) half-siblings, could be an obstacle for Oswald, who must face them to stay with the criminal empire.

In the comics, Sofa Falcone helps her father reveal the identity of a serial killer who kills criminals in Gotham City during the parties that are held in different months, and eventually they realize that it is Alberto Falcone, her brother, who calls himself The Holiday Killer to keep his true identity a secret.
On the other hand, in The Long Halloween, Sofia is a murderer known as The Hanged Man, who kills various members of the Police Department, so it is possible that we will see both of Falcone’s sons become assassins.
When and Where does The Penguin Premiere ?
The Penguin does not yet have a release date, but it is expected to arrive in mid-late 2023, exclusively on HBO Max.
