In House of the Dragon, there are a lot of dragons. The story takes place almost 200 years before Khaleesi was born, when the Targaryens are at the top of their power and use their big, strong dragons to stay in charge.
Everything gets out of hand when they start fighting among themselves after Viserys I Targaryen names his daughter as his successor. He then marries again, has children with Alicent Hightower, and one of his sons decides to go against his father’s wishes. father and start fighting with his older half-sister.
The Targaryens have always used dragons to their advantage. This is what lets Aegon The Conqueror wants to take over Westeros and become king after Valyria is destroyed. The problem is that in this story, dragons are going to fight each other, and some of them are very dangerous.
Vhagar is a powerful female dragon that no one has seen in years. She is one of the largest and most powerful dragons in the House of the Dragon, and she could be related to Khaleesi from Game of Thrones.
Who is Vhagar?
We know that these dragons are different in size, color, and strength. Syrax, which belongs to Princess Rhaenyra, is smaller than Daemon Targaryen’s dragon, and Aegon the Conqueror’s dragon is said to have been huge.
Aegon’s dragon is already dead, and its head is on an altar in the palace. At this point in the series, no one really knows what happened to Vhagar, but he told her that she might still be alive somewhere. tells Laena Velaryon about Viserys.
Vhagar is the oldest dragon and has a bronze color with shades of green and blue. It is so big that it can’t fit in the Dragonpit, where all family dragons live, because it is the second largest dragon after Belarion. This dragon used to belong to Viserys Targaryen’s father, but as the story goes on, she gets to have more riders (because dragons can be inherited).
Vhagar forms a bond with Laena, who is Rhaenys Targaryen’s daughter and has Valyrian blood. This bond is later passed to Aemond Targaryen, one of Alicent Hightower and Viserys’s sons, who rides the dragon into battle.
Is there a link between Vhagar and Khaleesi’s dragons?
No one knows where Vhagar was before she met Laena Velaryon. She didn’t live in the Dragonpit, so she may have left some eggs behind, which brings us to Khaleesi.
Khaleesi gets three petrified eggs as a wedding gift from Drogo. These eggs hatch into Rhaegal, Viserion, and Drogon. Illyrio Mopati gave him the eggs as a gift. Mopati told him that the green, black, and gold eggs came from the Shadow Lands of Asshai in Essos.
No one had seen a dragon in years when Khaleesi got these eggs, and they were already hardened. No one thought anything would come out of them, but that changed when she put them in the fire, which she also went into to get away from. After losing her husband and child, she goes to this place and comes out unharmed with three new dragons.
No one knows where these eggs came from, but if they were found near Essos, they are probably Vhagar’s eggs, which he may have had when no one knew where he was. Also, the dragons of the Targaryens have been different colors. For example, Aegon II’s Sunfyre is gold, so it’s clear that they at least come from the same family. Since Vhagar was the only dragon to escape from the dragon pit, we can assume that those eggs come from her.
That would also explain why the eggs did what they did when they were burned. Vhagar was the oldest and strongest dragon, so her eggs would be much more likely to last longer. This is why Khaleesi in Game of Thrones could have three dragons.
