Knives Out was one of the best movies of 2019 and surprised us with a story about the hunt for the killer (whodunit) in which Daniel Craig had to go to any length to expose the lies of a privileged family and discover who was behind the death of an elderly millionaire whose fortune gave everyone a reason to want him dead.

The first film, directed by Rian Johnson, featured performances by Craig as a very insightful detective, Ana de Armas as a nurse who couldn’t lie, Chris Evans (wearing the sweater from the movies that broke the internet), Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Toni Collette, and many other great actors who brought to life a strange family full of secrets, and in the end he revealed to us that things are never as they seem.

Craig’s detective learned that it wasn’t a murder, that the nurse was involved, and that the family he was investigating had more problems than they cared to admit. Knives Out had a wonderful finale, but it was merely the beginning of a narrative that, according to sources, will have a second and third installment due to Netflix.

Knives Out 2 trailer

The Glass Onion teaser provides the first look at the characters that Benoit Blanc will have to decipher in order to solve a new case, this time on a strange island where the suspects are the guests of an eccentric millionaire.

The teaser promises a far more serious and mysterious sequel, as well as a slightly more scandalous sequel, with a superbly dressed detective Blanc and a cast of odd and complex individuals.

The official photo:

The first image from the film depicts the cast sitting around a large table, reminiscent of Da Vinci’s Last Supper, with Detective Blanc questioning them and Edward Norton debating from the opposite side.

All of them are suspects in a new murder, and Blanc must once again analyze their ruses to learn the truth.

The sequel is called after the Glass Onion, according to Netflix (which is a phrase that also appears in a Beatles song). “It’s British slang for a monocle,” according to Song Facts. Its primary application is as a corrective lens for one eye.

What may the plot of Knives Out 2 be?

Netflix has kept story information under wraps, but given what transpired in the first film (which reminded us of the game Clue), we may expect another murder mystery with Benoit Blanc on the case.

According to the first summary, “Between Blades and Secrets” sequel detective Benoit Blanc returns to Greece to solve a mystery involving fresh suspects.

There will be a murder, several suspicious persons (like in Agatha Christie’s novels), many lies, and a detective who will have to go to any length to discover the truth and serve justice.

What do we currently know about Knives Out 2?

It has been confirmed that Netflix has plans to make at least two more films, with the first of the sequels already in development. Variety revealed that Daniel Craig will return as detective Benoit Blanc, and Dave Butista, who also works on Guardians of the Galaxy 3, has just joined the project with an unnamed character.

Batista and Craig have previously worked together on Spectre, so this is a reunion for the two stars, albeit we don’t know what their connection will be in this film. Bautista is very certainly one of the characters Craig will have to question and probe in the sequel.

Netflix paid $468 million for the rights to “Knives Out 2” and “Knives Out 3” in March, and Rian Johnson is allegedly returning to film the sequel, which is set to begin shooting in Greece this summer.

The first photographs from the sequel confirmed that Detective Blanc is back and on his way to the Mediterranean, aboard a ship reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s Death on the Nile. Behind him are the new people who are involved in a murder investigation that he must solve.

The cast: Dave Butista was the first to be confirmed, although The Hollywood Reporter later disclosed other actors who had previously been confirmed. Moonlight actress Janelle Monae has been cast in an unidentified role, according to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter. The characters of WandaVision’s Kathryn Hahn (aka “Agatha All Along”) and Edward Norton (Fight Club) are yet to be revealed.

The most recent confirmed cast members are Leslie Odom Jr., who previously participated in One Night in Miami, and Kate Hudson, well known for her role as Penny Lane in Almost Famous. For the time being, it is unknown who will play her characters.

It’s unclear whether any of the original cast members will return, but Ana de Armas, who won a Golden Globe nod for her role in the first film, told Flaunt in October, “I hope this is one of those surprises that will bring me a phone call from Rian!”

Daniel Craig, Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, and Kate Hudson co-star.

The cast also includes Ethan Hawke, Madelyn Cline, and Jessica Henwick.

When will be Knives Out 2 release date?

Production began last summer, so we should get this sequel in less than a year. According to sources, it will be available on the platform on December 23.

In an interview with Variety, Daniel Craig stated, “we did the second one [in 2021] in Greece, and then we shot the studio stuff in Serbia.” It’s already in the can. Rian [Johnson, director] is currently editing, and I believe it will be released in the fall of this year.”

Knives Out 3 will very certainly tell a different plot and bring together a new ensemble of Hollywood stars who will find themselves entangled in some type of murder investigation involving Benoit Blanc, but that one will most likely be put on hold. until the second half is completed and added to the Netflix catalog which likes to see how a movie is received before giving it sequels.
