Horror movies about vampires have been around for a long time. In the 1920s, Max Schreck brought Graf Orlok to life in a silent film. This started a craze that has changed and grown over the years, but He is dead and probably won’t die.

And this is why the vampire is the perfect villain (along with witches): he is alluring, magnetic, and mysterious, playing on people’s deepest desires, fear of the unknown, and fear of death. He can also be as scary or stylish as you want, so he can fit into any story or situation.

Today, actors like Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton have shown that vampires are sophisticated and relevant. However, this might not be possible if the 1990s hadn’t seen a boom in movies and TV shows based on these classic villains, including comedies, dramas, adaptations of literary classics, and even Marvel movies.

In the 1990s, anything was possible, so movies became a little more gothic and grungy. This made it possible for some of the best vampires in history to make it to the big screen and become legends.

Vampire Movies from the 90s You Must See

1. Interview with the Vampire

This movie, which won two Oscars and is one of the most famous of the 1990s, stars Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, and Kirsten Dunst. The story starts with a reporter about to interview an ancient vampire. The vampire tells the reporter how he became a vampire and what he did after that, including turning a girl into a vampire who later caused trouble. The story then moves to the modern world, where the idea of a vampire is more interesting than scary.

2. Bram Stoker’s Dracula

Based on the famous book, this film by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Gary Oldman was one of the best versions of Dracula on film. It is more of a classic story. Keanu Reeves plays Jonathan Harker, who has to protect his fiancee from a vampire who thinks she is the reincarnation of the woman he loved and lost a long time ago.

3. Blade

This Marvel movie is the way it is because the MCU had not yet started. Wesley Snipes gives life to Blade, a vampire-human hybrid who has the best of both worlds (strength, stamina, and the ability to walk in the sun), which he uses to fight creatures of the night that want to control humans. humanity. The blade is not like most vampires who want to eat people. Instead, he is a protector who sometimes has to go against his own instincts to do his job.

4. Chronos

The budget for Guillermo del Toro’s first movie wasn’t very big, but that doesn’t matter when you’re a movie genius. Cronos is a cult movie starring Federico Luppi as an antiquarian who finds a mysterious object hidden in an old sculpture. It turns out to be an artifact made to make people live forever, but it comes with a price: those who use it can’t stop wanting to drink human blood.

5. Vampires

This movie was based on a book by John Steakley. It was directed by John Carpenter. The movie stars James Woods, Daniel Baldwin, and Sheryl Lee. It’s about a vampire who loses his team and goes on a quest to find a mysterious relic that will let him stand in the sun without dying. so he could get back at the people who had hurt his family.

6. From Dusk Till Dawn

Robert Rodrigues and Quentin Tarantino worked together on this movie, which made Salma Hayek an international star. George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino play two criminals who try to pull off a heist that goes wrong. They end up hiding (with some hostages) in a restaurant in the middle of nowhere, not knowing that this place is the home of a group of vampires. that they will not miss the chance to make their dinner.

7. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This was the first time we saw Buffy Summers. She was in it with Kristy Swanson and Donald Sutherland. As in the series, the movie is about a teenage girl who finds out that she is the one chosen to protect humanity from the vampires and other monsters that are after her. The fact that there is only one person like her in each generation adds to the pressure to save the world.

8. Vampire in Brooklyn

This horror comedy is led by Eddie Murphy and Angela Bassett. Trouble starts when a ship pulls up to the Brooklyn docks and everyone on board is soon found to be dead. The ship was carrying an old vampire who was on her way to the United States to find a woman who is half vampire and half human and can change her life.

9. The Addiction

If someone made a movie about vampires, it wouldn’t be like this, but it could look like this. In The Addiction, the vampires are like junkies, and the story is kind of a metaphor for heroin addiction (director Abel Ferrara had a few problems with smack himself). The story is about a philosophy student (Lili Taylor) who is attacked by a vampire and starts to want blood and avoid the sun like a dirty fucking junky. Christopher Walken is in it! I wasn’t sure about the Holocaust footage they put in there—it seemed a little bit rude. Other than that, great!

10. The Lost Boys

I loved it so much as a kid that I did it a million times. Even though it wasn’t made in the 90s, I had to include it because of how it updated the vampire movie genre and set the stage for all the others that followed. Still, The Lost Boys is a fantastic movie. I just watched it again. It’s a goddamn masterpiece. The story is great, the acting is great, and the set design, costumes, music, lighting, and editing are all perfect. If you only watch one of these movies (you should see them all, you jerk), make it this one.
