Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 – the third installment in the franchise – will not be released until 2023. However, we won’t have to wait long to see one of our favorite Marvel teams, as they will reunite for a Christmas special that will be released in December, marking the end of Marvel productions for the year. Here, we answer all frequently asked topics and provide you with all of our current knowledge.
Let’s recall that the last time we saw the Guardians of the Galaxy was in Thor: Love and Thunder, where they made a (very brief) appearance. Before parting ways, Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Drax (Dave Bautista), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Groot (Vin Diesel), Kraglin (Sean Gunn), and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) journey with Thor. Gamora was killed in Infinity War, and the fate of Gamora from the past, who is still alive in this timeline, has not been disclosed. Now then, let’s discuss the special.
Will the Christmas-themed Guardians of the Galaxy special be canon?
Yes. The plot will follow the continuity of the universe and serve as a bridge between the events of Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder, and the third installment of Guardians of the Galaxy. It has been stated that the event will mark the conclusion of Phase 4 of the MCU.
Will it be made available in theaters?
No. There does not appear to be a theatrical release at this time. The event, along with Werewolf By Night and other unique Marvel presentations, will debut on Disney+.
When does the Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas special premiere?
There is currently no release date. The name of the special implies that it will air during the final weeks of December, just in time for the holidays and the end of the year.
Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special Cast
All the Guardians have returned. Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn will reprise their respective roles, while Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper will lend their voices to Groot and Rocket, respectively.
Similarly, the casting of Zoe Saldaa as Gamora has been confirmed. No more special appearances have been announced at this time, but cameos are certainly possible.
James Gunn, who helmed the first two films and will return for the third, will direct and write the film. The man has stated that the third film will be the last of the original Guardians and potentially his last with the band, so there is no doubt that these final two events will serve as a thrilling finish for this group of superheroes.
There is currently no trailer for the event. We will provide an update as additional information becomes available.
